“Land is not merely soil, it is a fountain of energy flowing through a circuit of soils, plants, and animals.”
Keeping this in mind Presidium organized a Fun with Soil virtual activity for Grade 1. In this activity, students were asked to Collect 3 samples of soil from 3 uniquely different sites and asked to add water in it and observe it. While students were observing different samples of soils, they were also asked to write their observations in their curriculum book. The worksheet included the following questions related to change of colour, how does it feel? and what happens when they add water to the soil? It was a fun learning activity through which students were able to understand the complex nature of the soil, the creatures living in the soil, and observe different types of soil including sandy soil, clay soil, etc. This activity allowed students to share their prior understanding of the composition of soil with other students on a deeper level. By engaging in observation and argumentation, students had opportunities to explore and explain their ideas.
