Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, algorithms, it is about understanding. Students of grade 3 Presidium were recently introduced to the concept of measurement. They participated enthusiastically in an activity wherein they understood the concept of weight using concrete material available at home. Arranging the weight of different objects in ascending order or descending order helps children visualize and understand measurement units like Kilogram, Gram, and smallest unit Milligram in a better way. Students were able to tell the relationship between these units easily. Such activity provides an opportunity to apply the skills of comparing and ordering units of weight. Presidians were able to explain the arrangement of big to small units or small to big units easily and hence the objective of understanding the concept of measurement was achieved.
