Lohri is a popular wintertime folk festival, celebrated in different parts of India. The festival marks the end of the winter season, a celebration of new crops, and it is a traditional welcome of longer days. Presidians celebrated the auspicious harvesting festival with great zeal and enthusiasm. Students were dressed up in the spirit of the festival. Presidians sang and danced to the tune of Lohri songs. Seasonal snacks like popcorn, rewari, chikki, peanuts formed an integral part of the celebration. Students understood that a handful of these goodies find their way into the fire, as a way to celebrate successful crops. They were motivated to plant some seeds on this harvesting day to make it more special.
